There are several different case lists in the KnowledgeBuilder:

  • Rejected are cases those that had their RippleDown interpretations changed during validation, or sent to the Knowledge Builder from the Auditor. Rejected cases are the ones that you are most likely going to use when building rules to fix these interpretations. At most, 1,000 rejected cases will be kept on this list. You can delete a case from the Rejected list once you have dealt with it, e.g. by building rules to fix its report. You cannot edit a case on this list. If you wish to edit a case on this list, copy it to Favourites and then edit it on the Favourites list.
  • New Reports are cases which have reports that you have not yet allowed to be autovalidated. You can allow a specific report for a case on this list using the Allow button on the Preview window. Once you allow a report, the case is automatically removed from the New Reports list. Only the most recent 100 cases will be kept on the New Reports list.Note: Any cases with an allowed report are removed from the New Reports list during the RippleDown Server’s daily housekeeping  task.
  • Favourites are interesting cases that you would like to keep. You can copy or move a case from one of the other lists to the Favourites list. Once a case is on the Favourites list it can be edited, for example, to change a sample value. There is no limit to the number of cases on the Favourites list.
  • LabQ if your installation includes a LabQ license, you can use this case list to place large amounts of results which you wish to keep.
  • Cornerstone cases are a selection of the cases from which rules have been built. As for the Archived list, you cannot edit or delete a case from this list. You can however copy a case to the Favourites. There is no limit to the number of cases on the Cornerstone list.
  • Archive are cases that have been received from the Online Information System. By default, 10,000 archived cases will be kept on this list, however you can change this using a project setting. You cannot edit or delete a case from this list. You can however copy a case to the Favourites.
  • Search are cases which have been found using the search for cases utility. You cannot edit a case on this list.

For the Rejected and Archived case lists, it is possible to set the maximum age in days of retained cases. These settings are modified from the Project Settings dialog. Cases that exceed the age limit are deleted during the nightly housekeeping operation, which is also when the case lists are trimmed to their limiting sizes.

An example of the cases lists is shown below:

Rule building can be done on the cases from any of these lists.

You can delete cases from the Rejected, New Reports, Favourites and Search case lists.

You can edit cases on the Favourites list, but not any other cases.
