An Auto-validation Setting comprises of a percentage level, a description, and a check box indicating whether a new report can be released. An Auto-validation Setting may be given to a case using rules that you define.

The decision whether or not to auto-validate a case is determined by the percentage level of the Auto-validation Setting given to that case. If the level is 0%, the case will never be auto-validated. If it is 100% it will always be auto-validated. If it is 50%, then a particular case will have a 50% chance of being auto-validated, and so on.

It may happen that two or more Auto-validation Settings are given for a particular case. In this situation, the lower of the levels is the determining level.

If no Auto-validation Setting is given for a case, this is equivalent to a 0% level and so the case will be manually validated unless the report itself has some auto-validation level.

Note: In general, even though an auto-validation setting may be given for a case, the case will not be auto-validated if the report has not yet been enabled for auto-validation, that is, “allowed”.

The exception is when you have checked the “Release” option. In that case, the auto-validation is determined only by the level, and the report case be released even if has not yet been allowed.

The description part of an Auto-validation Setting allows you to describe the type of cases for which this level should be applied. It’s like a memory jogger for this setting. For example, you might want to apply the same auto-validation level (say 50%) to two entirely different types of cases, say normal Iron studies and normal Cholesterol studies.
To do this you would create two different Auto-validation Settings, one with the description “Normal Iron Studies” and the other with the description “Normal Cholesterol Studies”. Both would have a level of 50%. You would then build a rule to add the “Normal Iron Studies” setting to a case, using the condition “Iron is normal”, for example. You would likewise build another rule for the “Normal Cholesterol Studies” setting.

For a project that has existing auto-validation levels set using the Report settings table, the auto-validation algorithm is as follows:

  1. If a case has been given an Auto-validation Setting, then the case is auto-validated at the corresponding level. Any setting associated with the report given to the case is ignored.
  2. If no Auto-validation Settings are given, and there is an auto-validation level defined for the case’s report, then that value is used.
  3. If no Auto-validation Settings are given, and there is no auto-validation level defined for the case’s report, then the case is manually validated.
