This training exercise gives you practice at selecting a Validation queue, reviewing cases on that queue, changing a report, and providing a note to the Knowledge Builder when making a change.

After you start the training script, the Validator should show three validation queues: Demo_GHB, GTT_Demo, and HOR_Demo.

The Knowledge Builder should also be showing in the background.

  1. Select the Demo_GHB queue and activate the Review button.A screen will appear that shows data patient history, comments added by a RippleDown Knowledge Base, and buttons and menus for processing the case:

  2. Change the report to include a lipid recommendation, for example: “No significant change in HbA1c. Diabetic control remains poor.  Consider checking urinary microalbumin level and lipids.” This can be done by directly editing the Interpretation text (that is, you can just click in the text area and type the new comments).
  3. When the text of the interpretation is changed from what was originally shown, the text of the ‘Accept button changes to ‘Accept with change‘.
  4. When you are happy with the report for this patient, press the ‘Accept with change‘ button.
  5. A dialog will appear into which you can write the reasons for changing the interpetation:

Provide this explanation of your change: “No lipid examination found”, and click the ‘OK‘ button of the dialog.

  6. Press ‘Close’ now that you have finished reviewing this queue.
  7. Select the Knowledge Builder application. It currently has the ‘Demo_GHB’ project opened.
  8. The case ‘532223’ has been sent to the Knowledge Builder as a Rejected case.
  9. If you click on the ‘Preview‘ pane you will see the interpretation as it was first presented to you in the Validator:
  10. If you click on the ‘Notes‘ tab you will see your approved interpretation and note:
  11. Select the Validator application again.
  12. Review the ‘GTT_Demo’ queue.
  13. Deal with the cases as follows:
    Case Action
732222 Change the interpretation to “Consistent with Gestational diabetes. Suggest follow-up GTT 6-8 weeks post-partum.”

Provide “Pregnant” as explanation for your change.

732223 Accept the interpretation without change.
732224 Change the interpretation to include a lipid recommendation, for example: “Consistent with Diabetes Mellitus.
Suggest baseline HbA1c and urine microalbumin and lipids. Also consider screening family members.”
732225 Accept the interpretation without change.

Note that the cases might not be presented in this order..

  14. Close theValidator and open the GTT_Demo project in the Knowledge Builder. Check that the reject case list contains 732222 and 732224, as expected.
